Case IH 3205 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Cylinder5 Warning - Current Level Error

This fault indicates that the Engine Control Unit (ECU) has detected an incorrect electrical current level (amperage draw) on the circuit for the Cylinder 5 fuel injector. This condition typically points to an open circuit, a short circuit to ground or battery, high resistance in the wiring harness, or an internal failure of the injector's solenoid coil.

   Inspect the wiring harness running from the Engine ECU to the Cylinder 5 fuel injector (the 5th cylinder from the front of the engine). Look for chafing, breaks, or melted insulation that could cause a short circuit.

   Disconnect the electrical connector at the Cylinder 5 injector and any pass-through connectors at the valve cover. Check for corrosion, loose/pushed-out pins, or oil intrusion.

   Using a multimeter, measure the resistance of the Cylinder 5 injector solenoid coil. Compare the reading to the OEM specification to determine if the coil has failed internally.

   Perform a continuity test on the wiring between the ECU pins and the injector connector to rule out an open load in the harness.

   Power Down

   Turn off the machine, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

   Access the Injector

   Remove the engine covers and the valve cover (if the injectors are located under the cover on your specific engine model) to access the Cylinder 5 injector.

   Harness Repair

   If the diagnostic checks revealed damaged wiring, repair the wires or replace the injector wiring harness.

   Remove Faulty Injector

   If the injector solenoid failed the resistance test, disconnect the high-pressure fuel line and remove the injector hold-down clamp. Carefully extract the faulty injector.

   Install New Injector

   Install the new OEM fuel injector. Ensure you use new O-rings and a new copper sealing washer at the base. Torque the hold-down clamp and the high-pressure fuel lines to exact OEM specifications.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the electrical harness. Reinstall the valve cover using a new valve cover gasket.

   System Prime & Calibration

   Reconnect the battery and prime the fuel system. Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the fault code and program the new injector's trim/calibration code into the ECU so the engine fuels correctly.
