Case IH 3208 – Engine Control Unit (ECU A-095): Open load error of injector in cylinder 6

The Engine Control Unit (ECU) has detected an open circuit in the electrical circuit for the cylinder 6 fuel injector (designated as component Y-066). The ECU's power stages continuously monitor the injectors using pattern detection; when the expected electrical load is missing (due to a broken wire, disconnected plug, or a burnt-out injector solenoid coil), this fault is triggered.

   Check for external power interference by verifying the battery has not been connected to an external power supply. Disconnect if present and retest.

   Inspect the engine cylinder harness by disconnecting it from the injector/valve cover (connector X-827).

   Measure resistance and continuity on the injector cover side of the harness. No continuity indicates an open circuit or short to ground between connector Y-066 pins 1 and 2.

   If wiring tests good, the cylinder 6 injector (Y-066) solenoid coil has likely failed internally.

   Prepare machine for service

   Turn off the machine, allow the engine to cool, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts or accidental engine cranking.

   Access the injector

   Remove the engine valve/injector cover to gain access to the cylinder 6 injector (Y-066).

   Disconnect lines and connector

   Carefully disconnect the high-pressure fuel lines and the electrical connector from the cylinder 6 injector.

   Remove the faulty injector

   Remove the injector hold-down clamp and extract the faulty injector from the cylinder head.

   Install the new injector

   Insert the replacement OEM injector, ensuring all O-rings and copper sealing washers are properly seated.

   Reassemble components

   Reinstall the hold-down clamp, reconnect the fuel lines, and plug in the electrical connector. Torque all fittings to the specifications outlined in your specific engine's service manual.

   Finalize and test

   Reinstall the valve cover, reconnect the battery, and use a diagnostic tool to clear the fault codes. Start the engine and verify that it runs smoothly without throwing DTC 5616.
