Case IH 3214 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / EDC (Electronic Diesel Control): Bank1 Warning - Application Dependent

The engine control system has detected an electrical anomaly (such as an open load, short circuit, or current level error) in the fuel injector circuit for Bank 1, which usually triggers an engine power reduction or injection limitation.

   Retrieve sub-codes using the CNH EASy diagnostic tool (or equivalent) to isolate if the issue is a short-to-ground, short-to-battery, or open load on a specific cylinder.

   Visually inspect the engine wiring harness connecting the EDC to the Bank 1 injectors for chafing, melted wires, or loose connectors.

   Disconnect the harness from the ECU and injectors, and use a multimeter to check for continuity and short circuits to ground or external voltage sources on the Bank 1 injector circuits.

   Test the resistance (Ohms) of each Bank 1 electro-injector coil to identify any internal short or open circuits within the injector itself.

   Disconnect Power

   Disconnect the machine's battery power to prevent electrical spikes or accidental shorts during repair.

   Isolate the Fault

   Based on the multimeter tests, determine if the fault lies in the wiring harness or a specific fuel injector.

   Replace the Faulty Component

   If the harness is damaged, replace the engine wiring harness (do not attempt to splice high-pressure common rail injector wiring). If an injector fails the resistance test, remove the high-pressure fuel lines and extract the faulty injector (electro-injectors cannot be overhauled; they must be replaced entirely).

   Reassembly

   Install the new injector (using new sealing washers/O-rings) or harness. Torque all high-pressure fuel lines and hold-down clamps to OEM specifications.

   Clear Codes and Test

   Reconnect the battery, connect the diagnostic tool, and clear the EDC fault codes. Run the engine and verify that the Bank 1 warning does not return and that full power is restored.
