Case IH 3218 – Engine Control Unit (ECU A-095) / EDC: Injection bank 2 short circuit failure (all injectors of the same bank can be affected)
Issue description
The engine control system has detected a short circuit—either a high-side short to the battery or a low-side short to ground—in the wiring harness or within the internal solenoid of one or more fuel injectors grouped into Bank 2.

Check the cause
Verify that the tractor's battery is not connected to an external power supply (such as a jump starter or heavy-duty battery charger), as voltage spikes can trigger this code.
Check for accompanying cylinder codes (e.g., 3083, 3075, or 3067) using the Electronic Service Tool (EST) or in-cab monitor to pinpoint the specific injector.
Inspect the injection cable and connectors for Bank 2 for damaged, bent, or dislocated pins, corroded terminals, or chafed wires shorting against the engine block.
Verify that the ECU A-095 has the most up-to-date software, as pattern detection errors sometimes require an ECU re-flash.
Repair steps
Isolate the Short
Disconnect the main wiring harness connector for the Bank 2 injectors. Turn the key on and check if the code changes from a 'short circuit' (3218) to an 'open load/circuit' code (e.g., 3224). If it changes to an open circuit, the short is located downstream in the injectors or the under-valve-cover harness.
Test Individual Injectors
If the short is downstream, disconnect the injectors in Bank 2 one by one. Measure the resistance across the two terminals of each injector solenoid. A reading of near-zero ohms indicates an internally shorted injector.
Repair Wiring or Replace Injector
If the wiring harness is chafed and shorting to ground/battery, repair or replace the injection cable. If an injector tests bad, replace the faulty fuel injector.
ECU Diagnosis
If the wiring harness tests perfectly and all injectors have proper resistance, the fault lies within the hardware power stages of the ECU A-095 itself. You will need to replace the Engine Control Unit and follow the appropriate service tool procedure to restore self-learning parameters.
