Case IH 3219 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / EDC: Bank 2 - Injection Cable Short circuit Low Side to Ground

The Engine Control Unit has detected a short circuit to ground on the low-voltage (return/ground) side of the fuel injector wiring harness for Bank 2. This prevents the ECU from properly controlling the fuel injectors on that bank, resulting in a severe engine misfire, derate, or shutdown.

   Inspect the engine wiring harness routing for Bank 2 for chafing against the engine block, valve cover, or brackets

   Disconnect the Bank 2 injector connectors and the main EDC harness connector to check for oil intrusion, corrosion, or bent pins

   With the harness disconnected at both the injectors and the EDC, test the low-side pins for continuity to a known good chassis ground to check for an internal harness short

   Test the injector solenoid pins directly with a multimeter for an internal short to the injector body/ground

   If wiring and injectors test perfectly, verify if there is an internal short within the EDC itself

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the master disconnect switch or disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical spikes.

   Isolate the Short

   Based on your multimeter tests, determine if the short is in the harness or the injector.

   Harness Repair/Replacement

   If the harness is chafed, repair the damaged wire using OEM-approved heat-shrink butt connectors or replace the entire injector wiring harness section for Bank 2.

   Injector Replacement

   If an injector is internally shorted to ground, remove the high-pressure fuel line, remove the injector hold-down clamp, and extract the faulty injector. Install a new injector with new copper sealing washers and O-rings, and program its calibration code into the EDC using a diagnostic tool.

   ECU Replacement

   If the harness and injectors are good, the EDC must be replaced and flashed with the machine's specific software.

   Clear Codes

   Reconnect the battery, turn the key on, and use a diagnostic tool (like CNH EST) to clear the inactive 3219 fault code. Run the engine to verify the fix.
