Case IH 3222 – Engine Control Module (ECM): Bank2 Warning - Application Dependent

This fault code indicates an electrical issue within the fuel injection system, specifically related to the injector wiring harness or the fuel injectors on "Bank 2" (which typically refers to the rear half of the cylinders). It generally points to a short circuit, an open load, or a current level error in the Bank 2 injection cable.

   Visually inspect the Bank 2 injector wiring harness for visible damage, chafing against engine components, or melted insulation.

   Using a zeroed multimeter, check the resistance of the Bank 2 injector wire harness and the individual injectors (resistance should typically be less than 1 ohm and greater than 0 ohms).

   Test for short circuits to ground or to battery voltage on both the high-side and low-side of the Bank 2 injection cables.

   Disconnect the harness at the ECM and at the valve cover/injectors to inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture intrusion, bending, or push-out.

   Check for companion EDC codes (such as 3218, 3219, or 3224) to narrow down whether Bank 2 is experiencing a general short circuit, a low-side short to ground, or an open load.

   Disconnect Power

   Disconnect the negative battery cable to ensure safety and prevent electrical spikes while working on the EDC system.

   Access the Harness

   Remove any engine covers or intake piping necessary to access the Bank 2 injector wiring harness (usually located on the rear half of the engine cylinder head).

   Remove the Faulty Harness

   Disconnect the harness connectors from the Bank 2 fuel injectors and trace the routing back to the main engine harness or ECM. Unclip and remove the harness.

   Replace or Repair

   If the harness failed the continuity/resistance test, install a new OEM injector wiring harness. If the harness tested perfectly but an individual injector failed the resistance test, replace the faulty injector.

   Reassemble

   Route the new harness exactly as the original to prevent future chafing. Secure all connectors until they click into place.

   Restore Power and Clear Codes

   Reconnect the battery. Use an Electronic Service Tool (EST) or a compatible diagnostic scanner to clear the 3222 fault code.

   Test Run

   Start the engine and monitor the ECM for returning fault codes to verify the repair.
