Case IH 3224 – Engine Controller (EDC / Engine Electronic Diesel Control): Bank2 Warning - Open Load

This code indicates that the engine controller has detected an "open load" (an open electrical circuit or infinite resistance) on the wiring circuit or components associated with "Bank 2" of the fuel injection system. This means the electrical connection to the fuel injectors grouped in Bank 2 is broken, unplugged, or the injector solenoid itself has failed internally.

   Visually inspect the engine wiring harness leading from the EDC to the Bank 2 fuel injectors for disconnected plugs, chafed wires, or physical damage.

   Disconnect the main engine harness at the EDC and the connectors at the Bank 2 injectors to check for pushed-out pins, corrosion, or oil/moisture intrusion (especially if using a valve cover pass-through connector).

   Using a multimeter, measure the resistance (ohms) across the terminals of each fuel injector on Bank 2. An open circuit (infinite resistance) indicates a failed injector solenoid.

   Test the continuity of the wiring harness from the EDC pinout to the injector connectors to verify if the wire is broken internally.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical spikes.

   Depending on the engine model, remove the engine covers or valve cover to access the Bank 2 fuel injectors and their wiring harness.

   Based on the diagnostic checks, determine if the open load is caused by a broken wire or a faulty injector.

   If an injector failed the resistance test, remove the high-pressure fuel line, unbolt the injector hold-down clamp, and extract the faulty injector. Install the new injector with new O-rings and copper sealing washers. Torque the hold-down bolt and fuel lines to OEM specifications.

   Reconnect all electrical connectors, ensuring they click into place securely. Reinstall any removed covers.

   Clear Codes

   Reconnect the battery. Use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) or a compatible diagnostic scanner to clear the 3224 fault code from the EDC memory.
