Case IH 3226 – Engine Control Unit (EDC / Engine ECU): Messages SRA2EDC

This indicates a CAN bus communication failure or an internal error reported by the Smart Remote Actuator (SRA) to the Electronic Diesel Control (EDC).

   Check the eVGT Fuse (e.g., F-203, 20A Mini Yellow on Optum/Magnum models)

   Inspect the wiring harness between the Engine ECU and the eVGT actuator for disconnected cables, broken wires, or short circuits to ground/power

   Test CAN Communication by verifying the integrity of the CAN High and CAN Low lines at the actuator connector

   Check for secondary codes using the Electronic Service Tool (EST) (such as 3859 through 3867) to pinpoint voltage, motor, or initialization failures

   Power down machine

   Turn off the engine, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during testing.

   Locate actuator

   Locate the eVGT Smart Remote Actuator mounted directly on the turbocharger assembly.

   Inspect connector

   Disconnect the electrical harness from the actuator. Inspect the pins on both the actuator and the harness side for corrosion, moisture ingress, or pushed-back pins. Clean with contact cleaner if necessary.

   Verify power and ground

   Reconnect the battery and turn the key to the ON position. Use a multimeter to verify that the actuator is receiving proper operating voltage and has a solid ground.

   Replace components

   If the fuse was blown, replace it and retest. If it blows again immediately, there is a short in the wiring or the actuator motor is internally shorted. If the wiring, power, ground, and CAN lines test good, the eVGT actuator itself has failed internally and must be replaced. Note: On some FPT turbochargers, the actuator is calibrated to the turbo housing at the factory and the entire turbocharger assembly must be replaced.

   Clear codes and test

   Reconnect all components. Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST), clear the inactive fault codes, and run the engine under load to verify the turbocharger vanes are sweeping correctly and the code does not return.
