3235 (F-5441-14)

Case IH 3235 (F-5441-14) – Engine Control Module (ECM / ECU): Exceeded the number of injections for a given engine speed

Issue description

The number of requested fuel injections by the system is greater than the actual number of injections physically possible or injected for the current engine speed (RPM). This often results in an SCR Inducement Level 1 (Torque reduction) to protect the engine.

Applies to these machines

  • VESTRUM CVX
  • 240 Series Axial-Flow Combines (7240, 8240, 9240)
  • Magnum 235 - 340 (Series 4)
  • Puma Series
  • Farmall Series (95U, 105U, 115U Pro EP)
  • Austoft A9900 Sugarcane Harvesters

Check the cause

  1. Check for other active codes, especially those related to crank/cam speed sensors or DEF/AdBlue quality, and diagnose those first

  2. Verify that the machine has not been connected to an external power supply (like a jump box or charger), as voltage irregularities can cause injection timing miscalculations

  3. Verify the DEF/AdBlue tank is not empty and there are no DEF quality faults (such as DTC FA9F or FABF)

Repair steps

  1. Clear and Retest

Disconnect any external power sources, clear the fault codes using the diagnostic tool (EST), and run the engine to see if the code returns.

  2. ECM Software Update

Check with the Case IH dealer network for an ECM software calibration update. Reflashing the ECM often resolves injection timing logic errors.

  3. Inspect Engine Speed Sensors

Inspect the wiring harness and connectors for the crankshaft and camshaft engine speed sensors for chafing, corrosion, or loose pins.

  4. High-Pressure Fuel System Test

Perform a diagnostic test on the high-pressure fuel system to ensure the injectors are firing correctly and not mechanically sticking.

Parts you might need

(2)
  • Engine Speed Sensor (Crankshaft/Camshaft Position Sensor)

Generic part name. Specific OEM part numbers vary heavily by exact engine model.

  • Engine Control Module (ECM)

If the module has an internal failure preventing software updates.
