3235 (DTC F936) - ECU

Case IH 3235 (DTC F936) - ECU – Engine Control Module (ECU A-095): Exceeded the number of injections for a given engine speed

Issue description

The system monitors the difference between the requested number of fuel injections and the current capability of the fuel injection system. If the number of requested injections is greater than the number of actual injections injected for the current engine speed, this fault will occur. The primary failure modes are typically that the time for the injection calculation is too short, or there is a software issue within the Engine Control Unit.

Applies to these machines

  • MAXXUM T4E
  • Case IH 240 Series Axial-Flow Combines (e.g., 7240, 8240, 9240)
  • Case IH Magnum Tractors (235 – 340 Series 4, 180-380)
  • Case IH Steiger Tractors (370-620)
  • Case IH Puma Tractors
  • Case IH Farmall Tractors (e.g., 115U)
  • Case IH A8810 Sugarcane Harvesters

Check the cause

  1. Check for External Power: Verify that the tractor's battery power supply has not been connected to an external power supply (like a jump box or external charger). If an external power supply is connected, disconnect it and test the system for normal operation.

  2. Check Battery Voltage: Check the battery voltage on the instrument cluster. Start the engine and run it at 2000 RPM to ensure the charging system is operating normally and providing adequate voltage to the ECU.

  3. Check ECU Software: Check the Engine Control Unit (ECU A-095) to see if it is running the appropriate and most up-to-date software version.

Repair steps

  1. Resolve Voltage Issues

If the diagnostic checks reveal an external power supply was causing voltage irregularities, remove it. If the charging system is faulty, repair the alternator/wiring before proceeding.

  2. Re-flash the ECU

If voltage is correct but the code persists, the issue is likely a software calculation error. Connect your diagnostic tool (e.g., CNH EST) and re-flash ECU A-095 with the latest appropriate software.

  3. Replace the ECU

If ECU A-095 cannot be re-flashed, fails during the flash process, or if the fault code returns immediately after a successful software update, the Engine Control Unit must be removed and replaced.
