Case IH 3240 – Engine Control Module (ECM): ECM EEPROM - Write Operation Failure

The Engine Control Module (ECM) is unable to write data to its internal EEPROM, indicating an internal hardware failure within the module's memory chip.

   Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) and verify that fault code 3240 is currently active.

   Attempt to clear the fault code and cycle the ignition key.

   Check for any severe voltage spikes or grounding issues to the ECM that could have caused the memory failure, to prevent damaging a replacement unit.

   Replace ECU if failure remains present (if the code returns immediately after a reset, the internal chip is permanently damaged).

   Disconnect Power

   Disconnect the machine's battery (negative terminal first) to prevent electrical shorts during module replacement.

   Remove the Faulty ECM

   Locate the Engine Control Module on the engine block or designated mounting bracket. Carefully disconnect the wiring harness connectors from the ECM. Unbolt and remove the faulty unit.

   Install the New ECM

   Mount the replacement or remanufactured ECM and secure the mounting bolts. Reconnect the wiring harness connectors securely.

   Restore Power

   Reconnect the battery terminals.

   Programming

   Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the machine's diagnostic port.

   Flash the Dataset

   Flash/program the new ECM with the correct software and dataset for the specific machine model and engine serial number.

   Calibration

   Follow the appropriate service tool procedure to restore self-learning parameters and injector trim codes.

   Verification

   Clear any remaining fault codes, start the engine, and verify the repair.
