Case IH 3245 – Engine Controller: Engine Controller (Internal Communication Error)

Internal communication failure or a processor watchdog timer implausibility within the engine's control module. If the error is permanent, the module will block fuel injection to protect the engine.

   Determine if the fault is active/permanent or stored/temporary by clearing the fault memory, cycling the key, and attempting to run the machine. If temporary, it can be safely ignored.

   Check for power and ground issues. Verify that the ECM is receiving clean, stable battery voltage and has solid ground connections to rule out false internal watchdog faults caused by voltage spikes or drops.

   Verify injection status. If the engine cranks but will not start and code 3245 is active and cannot be cleared, the internal processor has failed.

   Disconnect Power

   Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical arcing.

   Remove the ECM/EDC

   Locate the Engine Controller (typically mounted on the side of the engine block or firewall). Disconnect the main wiring harness connectors. Remove the mounting bolts and remove the module.

   Install the New ECM/EDC

   Mount the replacement Engine Controller and securely reconnect the wiring harnesses.

   Restore Self-Learning Parameters

   Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) laptop to the machine's diagnostic port.

   Program the Module

   Follow the appropriate service tool procedure to flash the correct software dataset for your specific machine variant and restore the engine's self-learning parameters (such as injector trim codes and immobilizer handshakes).

   Clear Codes and Test

   Clear any residual fault codes and start the engine to verify the repair.
