3256 (F-5572-14)

Case IH 3256 (F-5572-14) – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / A-095: ECU internal failure - NTP error in ADC monitoring

Issue description

The Electronic Control Module (ECU) uses a No-load Test Pulse (NTP) operation to continuously check the efficiency and health of its internal Analog to Digital Converter (ADC). If the ECU detects a queue error or an invalid response during this internal test impulse, it logs this fault, indicating the engine computer is failing to process analog sensor signals correctly due to an internal hardware or software processing error.

Applies to these machines

  • VESTRUM CVX
  • 240 Series Axial-Flow Combines (7230, 8230, 9230)
  • Magnum Series (235–340 Series 4)
  • Puma Series
  • Steiger Series
  • Farmall
  • Skid Steer Loaders (SSL)
  • Compact Track Loaders (CTL) (SR220, SV300, TR320)
  • Backhoe Loaders (580 Super N, 590SN)

Check the cause

  1. Use the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to verify if the fault code is currently active or if it was a temporary glitch.

  2. Check the ECU to ensure it is running the most up-to-date software version, as software corruption can trigger false internal ADC errors.

  3. Visually inspect the wiring harnesses and connectors going to the ECU for damaged, bent, or dislocated pins, corroded terminals, or broken wires.

  4. Flex the involved harnesses while the machine is operating or while monitoring the EST to reveal any intermittent shorts to ground or battery that might be back-feeding voltage.

Repair steps

  1. Re-flash the ECU

If the wiring is intact, attempt to re-flash the Engine Controller with the appropriate software using the Case IH EST.

  2. Replace the ECU

If the software re-flash does not clear the active code, the internal Analog to Digital Converter has suffered a permanent hardware failure. You must remove and replace the Engine Controller.

  3. Restore Parameters

After installing the new Engine Controller, you must connect the EST and follow the appropriate service tool procedure to restore the engine's self-learning parameters and calibrate the new module to the machine.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Engine Controller

    463212051

Specific to certain F5C 72KW Tier-4 engines. The ECU is not plug-and-play; a blank or remanufactured core must be flashed with the correct machine software and self-learning parameters using the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) after installation.
