Case IH 3259 – Engine Control Module: High Side Power _Short circuit to Ground

The engine controller has detected that the wiring to the starter relay (or the relay itself) is shorted to ground on the high-side power circuit.

   Inspect the wiring harness between the Engine Control Module and the starter relay/main power relay for any broken, disconnected, or chafed wires that could cause a short to ground.

   Test the starter relay itself to determine if there is an internal short circuit.

   Locate relay

   Locate the starter relay / high-side power relay for the engine controller.

   Test wiring harness

   Disconnect the relay and use a multimeter to check the wiring harness for continuity to ground on the high-side power circuit.

   Repair wiring

   If the wiring is damaged, repair or replace the affected section of the wiring harness.

   Replace relay

   If the wiring tests fine, the short is likely inside the relay. Replace the defective relay with a new OEM unit.

   Clear fault codes

   Clear the fault codes from the ECM and verify that the code does not return upon startup.
