3260 (DTC 5922) - ECU

Case IH 3260 (DTC 5922) - ECU – Electronic Control Unit (ECU) A-095: Starter relay low side driver circuit open failure

Issue description

The Electronic Control Unit (ECU) A-095 controls the voltage to the starter control relay (designated as K-062). The K-062 relay, in turn, controls the voltage to the main starter relay (designated as K-005). The ECU A-095 actively monitors the K-062 control circuit for an open circuit condition. If the ECU detects an open circuit condition in the K-062 low side control circuit, it logs this fault code.

Applies to these machines

  • MAXXUM T4E
  • Case IH Axial-Flow Combines 240 Series
  • Case IH Magnum Tractors MX210
  • Case IH Magnum Tractors MX230
  • Case IH Magnum Tractors MX255
  • Case IH Magnum Tractors MX285
  • Case IH Magnum Tractors 235–340 (Series 4)
  • Case IH Puma Tractors

Check the cause

  1. External Power Supply Check: Check if the tractor battery has been connected to an external power supply (such as a jump starter or charger). If an external power supply is connected, disconnect it and test the system for normal operation, as this can falsely trigger the code.

  2. Charging System: Verify that the machine's charging system is functioning correctly.

  3. Component Inspection: Check for a faulty starter solenoid or a faulty starter relay (K-062 or K-005).

  4. Module Verification: Rule out a faulty Universal Control Module (UCM) / Central Control Unit (CCU).

Repair steps

  1. Test for continuity

Test for continuity on both the high side and the low side control circuits of the starter relay system.

  2. Identify open circuit

If there is no continuity on either the high side or the low side control circuit, an open circuit condition exists in the Engine (EN) wire harness.

  3. Test wiring harness

Specifically, test the wiring harness between: Connector X-833 pin 1 (Yellow/Green wire) and Connector X-917 pin 58 (Yellow/Green wire); Connector X-833 pin 2 (Yellow/Black wire) and Connector X-917 pin 83 (Yellow/Black wire).

  4. Repair broken conductor

Once the break in continuity is found, locate and repair the broken conductor in the harness.

  5. Clear fault codes and test

Clear the fault codes and test the starting circuit for normal operation.
