Case IH 3264 – Engine Control Module (ECM) / Engine ECU: Immobilizer - Injection Disabled
Issue description
The Engine Control Module (ECM) has actively disabled the fuel injection system because it did not receive the correct security authorization from the tractor's immobilizer system. Without this digital handshake, the engine will crank but will not start, or it will be completely locked out from starting.
Applies to these machines
4 machines- Magnum series (235–340 Series 4)
- Steiger
- Optum AFS Connect
- Puma
Check the cause
Verify the operator is using the correct, programmed transponder key or key fob
Check for related CAN codes (e.g., 3263 ECM Bus Off on CAN C) using a diagnostic scanner to rule out CAN bus wiring failures
Inspect the key fob for physical damage, water intrusion, or a dead battery
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the ignition switch/immobilizer module and the Engine ECM for chafed wires, corrosion, or loose pins on the CAN C network
Verify that the immobilizer module is receiving proper voltage and has a solid ground connection
Repair steps
Test with a Spare Key
Attempt to start the machine with a known-good spare transponder key. If the tractor starts, the original key's transponder chip has failed and the key must be replaced.
Repair CAN Communication
If wiring damage was found during the diagnostic phase, repair the broken CAN lines or power/ground wires supplying the immobilizer module.
Module Replacement & Programming
If the wiring is intact and multiple keys fail to authorize, the immobilizer module (or the ignition switch assembly housing the reader) is likely defective. Replace the module.
Syncing the System
Using the CNH EST (Electronic Service Tool) or a capable aftermarket programmer (such as an OBDSTAR ECU tool), program the new keys to the immobilizer and perform the pairing procedure to sync the immobilizer module with the Engine ECM. Note: The tractor will not start until the new module is digitally paired to the ECM.
Clear Codes
Clear the 3264 fault code from the Engine ECM and cycle the key to verify the repair.
Alternative Aftermarket Solution
In extreme cases where OEM modules are unavailable or the machine is strictly off-highway, specialized ECU repair services can perform an 'IMMO OFF' flash on the Engine ECM to permanently bypass the immobilizer check, though this removes all anti-theft protections.
