Case IH 3265 (DTC E4DD) - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU A-095): Fuel injection requested during overrun
Issue description
The Electronic Control Unit (ECU) monitors the engine for requested fuel injection during an "overrun" condition (when the machine's momentum is driving the engine, such as coasting downhill, and fuel injection should normally be cut off). If the system detects that fuel injections are still being requested or occurring during this overrun state, the fault code is triggered.
Applies to these machines
6 machines- MAXXUM T4E
- Puma series
- Magnum series (250, 280, 310, 340)
- Steiger series
- 240 Series Axial-Flow Combines (7240, 8240, 9240)
- 30 Series Axial-Flow Combines (7230, 8230, 9230)
Check the cause
Verify if any other error codes are displayed. If no other error code is present, proceed to the next step.
Check that the tractor's battery power supply has not been connected to an external power supply (like a jump box or external charger). If an external power supply is connected, disconnect it and test the system for normal operation.
Ensure the machine's base battery voltage is within normal operating specifications.
Repair steps
Verify the Condition
Clear the code and operate the machine to see if the fault returns specifically during an overrun/coasting condition.
Inspect the Pressure Relief Valve (PRV)
Test the PRV to ensure it is maintaining proper rail pressure and not bypassing fuel prematurely.
Test Fuel Injectors for Leakage
Perform an injector leak-off/return flow test. Leaking injectors will allow fuel into the cylinders during overrun, causing the ECU to flag the E4DD code.
Verify Injection Timing
Using the electronic service tool (EST), verify that the injection timing parameters are correct and that the ECU has the latest software update.
Replace Faulty Components
If the PRV is weak or an injector is leaking, replace the affected component.
Final Validation
Clear the ECU fault memory and test drive the machine under load and overrun conditions to ensure the code does not return.
