Case IH 3272 – Engine Control Module (ECM / EDC): Fuel Low Pressure Sensor - Signal Above Range Max

The voltage signal returned by the low-pressure fuel sensor is higher than the maximum acceptable threshold programmed into the computer. This typically points to an electrical issue rather than a mechanical fuel pressure problem, most commonly a short to power, an open ground circuit in the sensor wiring, or an internally failed sensor.

   Inspect the wiring harness and the 3-pin weather-proof connector at the low-pressure fuel sensor for corrosion, backed-out pins, or wire chafing.

   Check the sensor's ground circuit for an open connection (an open ground will cause the signal voltage to max out).

   Check the signal wire for a short to the 5V reference or 12V power supply.

   Verify the ECM is supplying the correct reference voltage (typically 5V) to the sensor.

   Connect a mechanical pressure gauge (using a clear test line to also check for air intrusion) to the low-pressure test port to verify actual supply pressure is within normal operating limits (e.g., 0 to 30 psi / 2.07 bar depending on the exact engine).

   Preparation

   Turn off the engine, remove the key, and allow the engine to cool. Clean the area around the low-pressure fuel sensor (usually located on or near the secondary fuel filter housing or low-pressure supply line) to prevent dirt from entering the fuel system.

   Relieve Pressure

   Relieve any residual pressure in the low-pressure fuel system to prevent fuel spray.

   Disconnect

   Unplug the 3-pin electrical connector from the sensor.

   Removal

   Unscrew the faulty low-pressure fuel sensor from its mounting port.

   Installation

   Thread the new sensor into the port. Ensure the pre-installed rubber sealing O-ring/gasket is properly seated. Tighten to the manufacturer's specified torque.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the electrical harness connector until it clicks into place.

   Prime and Test

   Turn the key to the ON position to allow the electric lift pump to prime the system and check for fuel leaks. Clear the fault code using a diagnostic scan tool and start the engine to verify the code does not return.
