Case IH 3286 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / EDC: Sensor Supply Voltage 3 - Low

The reference voltage (typically 5V) supplied by the engine controller to the "Circuit 3" group of sensors has dropped below the acceptable minimum threshold. This is usually caused by a short-to-ground in the engine wiring harness, a failed sensor on that specific circuit pulling the voltage down, or an internal hardware failure within the engine controller itself.

   Check main machine battery voltage to ensure it is sufficient, as low system voltage can trigger false sensor supply codes.

   Inspect the engine wiring harness for chafing, melting, or pinched wires that could cause a short-to-ground on the Sensor Supply 3 circuit.

   Disconnect the sensors powered by Supply Circuit 3 one at a time. If the 5V reference voltage returns to normal at the EDC pin after unplugging a specific sensor, that sensor is internally shorted.

   Measure the voltage directly at the EDC pins for Sensor Supply 3 to verify if the controller is outputting the correct voltage when the harness is disconnected.

   Verify Power

   Test the battery and alternator output to ensure the EDC is receiving proper operating voltage.

   Harness & Sensor Testing

   Trace the wiring for correct voltage supply between the sensors and the EDC. Repair any damaged wiring or connectors.

   Replace Shorted Sensors

   If step 3 of the diagnostic checks revealed a sensor pulling the circuit down, replace that specific sensor and clear the codes.

   Replace the EDC

   If the battery voltage is correct, the wiring harness is intact (no shorts to ground), and no sensors are shorted, but the code persists, the EDC has suffered an internal hardware defect. Replace EDC.
