Case IH 3287 – Engine ECU (EDC - Electronic Diesel Control module): Turbo Compound Monitoring - No Signal
Issue description
The Engine Control Unit (ECU) is not receiving a valid speed or position signal from the Turbo Compound monitoring sensor. A 'No Signal' condition means the sensor circuit is open, shorted, the sensor has failed, or the turbine is mechanically seized and not spinning.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness and connector at the Turbo Compound speed sensor for obvious signs of damage, chafing, melting from exhaust heat, or moisture intrusion.
Using a multimeter, check the sensor wiring harness for continuity back to the Engine ECU. Test for an open circuit, short to ground, or short to power.
Check the sensor's internal resistance (if inductive) or verify that it is receiving the correct reference voltage and ground from the ECU (if Hall-effect).
If the wiring and sensor test good, inspect the turbo compound unit mechanically. If the power turbine or fluid coupling is seized, the sensor will correctly report 'No Signal' because the component is not rotating.
Repair steps
Preparation
Turn off the engine, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts. Allow the exhaust system to cool completely, as the turbo compound unit is located in the hot exhaust stream.
Locate the Sensor
Locate the Turbo Compound monitoring sensor, which is mounted on the turbo compound gear train/fluid coupling housing near the exhaust power turbine.
Remove the Sensor
Disconnect the electrical connector. Remove the retaining bolt securing the sensor to the housing and carefully pull the sensor out.
Inspect for Debris
Check the magnetic tip of the old sensor for heavy metal shavings, which could indicate internal gear or turbine failure.
Install the New Sensor
Insert the replacement sensor into the housing. Ensure the O-ring is properly seated. Torque the retaining bolt to OEM specifications.
Reconnect and Clear Codes
Reconnect the wiring harness. Reconnect the battery. Use the CNH EASy diagnostic tool (or equivalent) to clear the inactive 3287 fault code.
Test Run
Start the engine and run it under load to verify the turbo compound system engages and the fault code does not return.
