3293

Case IH 3293 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / A-095: Fuel rail pressure has exceeded maximum positive deviation limits.

Issue description

The engine's fuel pressure is controlled by the fuel metering unit (Y-011). The control module monitors this pressure, and if it determines that the actual fuel rail pressure is lower than the expected commanded pressure (based on engine speed-dependent thresholds), it logs a positive deviation fault. The system is demanding more fuel pressure, but the rail is failing to reach that target.

Applies to these machines

  • Farmall
  • Steiger T4B
  • Case IH 240 Series Axial-Flow Combines
  • Case IH Puma Series Tractors
  • Case IH Magnum 235 - 340 (Series 4) Tractors

Check the cause

  1. Check for concurrent active faults, specifically Fault 3106 (DTC 1145) - 'Fuel pressure relief valve reached maximum allowed opening count'. Diagnose and clear any other fuel-related faults first.

  2. Verify that the machine's battery has not been connected to an external power supply (such as a jump box or external charger) during operation. Voltage irregularities can skew the fuel metering unit's readings. Disconnect any external power and retest.

Repair steps

  1. Replace the Pressure Relief Valve (PRV)

Remove and replace the PRV. The primary hardware failure point for this code is a weakened or leaking PRV on the fuel rail bleeding off pressure.

  2. Clear Codes and Test

Clear the ECU fault codes and run the engine under load to verify that the actual rail pressure now matches the commanded pressure.

  3. Inspect the Fuel Metering Unit (Secondary)

If replacing the PRV does not resolve the issue, the Fuel Metering Unit (Y-011) located on the high-pressure injection pump may be failing to allow enough fuel into the rail. Inspect the unit's wiring harness for damage, and replace the metering unit if necessary.
