Case IH 3293 – Engine Controller / EDC / Engine ECU: Fuel System - Rail Pressure Lower Than Desired Target

The Engine Control Module has detected that the actual fuel pressure in the common rail is lower than the commanded (desired) target pressure.

   Check for a clogged or restricted fuel filter

   Inspect the high-pressure fuel lines, common rail, and injectors for any physical leakage or tightness issues

3. 3

   Test the low-pressure fuel pump (transfer pump) hydraulic circuit to ensure adequate supply pressure to the high-pressure pump

   Evaluate the high-pressure pump for low efficiency or failure to build pressure

   Check the fuel metering unit circuit for failure to command the correct flow

   Replace fuel filter

   Begin by replacing the fuel filter(s) and bleeding the fuel system, as a clogged filter is the most common cause of low rail pressure.

   Inspect for leaks

   Inspect all high-pressure fuel lines and injector connections for leaks. Tighten or replace leaking lines.

   Test low-pressure circuit

   Connect a pressure gauge to the low-pressure fuel circuit. If the pressure is below specification, repair or replace the low-pressure fuel pump/transfer pump.

   Test high-pressure pump and metering unit

   If low-pressure supply is adequate and filters are clean, test the high-pressure pump and fuel metering unit. Replace the high-pressure pump or metering unit if they are found to be operating at low efficiency.

   Clear fault codes and reset system

   Clear the fault codes using the appropriate electronic service tool. If the EDC/ECM was replaced or parameters were reset during the repair, follow the service tool procedure to restore self-learning parameters.
