Case IH 3301 – Engine Controller: Fuel System - Rail Pressure Is Not Reducing When High Pressure Pump Is At Minimum Flow
Issue description
The code triggers when the system detects that the common rail fuel pressure remains too high even when the high-pressure fuel pump is commanded to its minimum flow state. The underlying condition is typically caused by a restriction in the fuel return system or an electrical/mechanical failure of the fuel metering unit.
Applies to these machines
7 machines- Farmall
- Steiger T4B
- skid steer
- Skid Steer Loaders (SSL)
- Compact Track Loaders (CTL)
- Magnum 235 - 340 (Series 4)
- STX Steiger tractors
Check the cause
Connect the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to check for any other active fault codes related to the fuel metering unit (such as short circuits or open circuits).
Check the wiring harness and connectors for the fuel metering unit (MeUn) for loose contacts, short circuits to the battery (high side), or short circuits to ground.
Check the low-pressure fuel return lines running from the high-pressure pump back to the fuel tank for pinched lines, kinks, or clogs.
Verify the operation of the pressure relief valve, as a stuck-closed valve can also cause rail pressure to remain too high.
Repair steps
Clear Return Line Restrictions
If a clog or kink is found in the low-pressure fuel return tubes during the diagnostic phase, clear the restriction or replace the damaged section of the return line.
Repair Wiring
If the circuit check reveals a short or open in the fuel metering unit wiring harness, repair or replace the damaged wiring.
Replace the Fuel Metering Unit
If the return lines are clear and the wiring is intact, the metering unit itself is likely faulty and must be replaced.
Restore Self-Learning Parameters
If the diagnostic process determines that the Engine Controller (EDC) has an internal error and needs to be replaced or reprogrammed, you must use the Electronic Service Tool to follow the appropriate procedure to restore the engine's self-learning parameters.
