Case IH 3302 – Engine ECU (EDC - Electronic Diesel Control module): Cylinder 3 Specific Errors - Signal Not Plausible
Issue description
This code indicates that the engine control module is receiving an irregular, out-of-range, or implausible electrical signal from the fuel injector circuit on cylinder number 3. This typically points to an electrical fault in the injector solenoid, a wiring harness issue, or a mechanical response failure of the injector itself.
Applies to these machines
3 machines- Case IH Magnum 235 - 340 (Series 4)
- Case IH Puma series
- Case IH Farmall series
Check the cause
Use the CNH EST or EASY diagnostic tool to verify if the code is active or stored, and check for secondary codes (such as rail pressure deviations).
Inspect the wiring harness running from the Engine ECU to the cylinder 3 fuel injector. Look for chafed wires, melted insulation, or loose/corroded connector pins.
Measure the electrical resistance of the cylinder 3 injector solenoid with a multimeter to determine if it has an internal short or open circuit.
Check the fuel rail pressure sensor readings and inspect the pressure relief valve. Fuel leaking from the relief valve can cause pressure drops that trigger secondary injector faults.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Disconnect the machine's battery to prevent electrical shorts while working on the EDC system.
Access the Injector
Locate the cylinder 3 fuel injector on the engine block.
Repair Wiring
If the diagnostic checks revealed a damaged connector or wiring harness, splice in a new connector pigtail or repair the damaged wire.
Remove the Fuel Line
If the injector itself is faulty, loosen and remove the high-pressure fuel injection line connected to cylinder 3.
Extract the Injector
Remove the injection nozzle crab/clamp holding the injector in place (e.g., removing the 5/16 NC hex bolt). Carefully extract the injector from the cylinder head.
Install the New Injector
Seat the new fuel injector using new O-rings and a new copper sealing washer.
Reassemble
Reinstall the injector clamp and torque to OEM specifications. Reconnect the high-pressure fuel line and the electrical connector.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery, bleed the fuel system of air, and use the diagnostic tool to clear fault code 3302. Run the engine to verify the repair.
