Case IH 3305 – Engine Control Module (ECM / Engine ECU): Rail Pressure below Minimum Limit in Controlled Mode
Issue description
The high-pressure fuel pump is failing to generate or maintain the minimum required fuel pressure in the common rail that the engine controller is demanding to operate the engine properly.

Check the cause
Check for restricted fuel filters, pinched supply lines, or a plugged standpipe in the bottom of the fuel tank (crop debris restricting flow is a common cause).
Verify that the low-pressure lift pump is delivering adequate fuel supply pressure to the high-pressure injection pump (CP3).
Perform an injector return flow test by monitoring rail pressure during cranking (should reach ~3600 PSI or 1.0 volt on the sensor). Check for internally leaking fuel injectors bleeding too much fuel back to the return line.
Inspect the fuel pressure relief valve (limit valve) on the fuel rail to see if it is weak or stuck open, prematurely bleeding off pressure into the return line.
Test the electronic fuel metering unit (FCA / M-Prop) on the high-pressure pump to ensure it is correctly commanding fuel volume.
Check the rail pressure sensor and its wiring harness for shorts, opens, or skewed voltage readings.
Repair steps
Resolve Supply Restrictions
Drain and clean the fuel tank standpipe if debris is found. Replace the primary and secondary fuel filters and bleed the low-pressure fuel system.
Replace Leaking Injectors
If the injector return flow test reveals excessive bypass, replace the faulty injector(s) to restore a sealed high-pressure environment.
Replace the Pressure Relief Valve
If the relief valve is found to be leaking fuel into the return circuit under normal operating pressures, remove and replace the valve on the fuel rail.
Replace the Fuel Metering Unit / Pump
If the low-pressure supply is good, injectors are not leaking, and the relief valve is holding, but the pump still cannot build pressure, replace the Fuel Metering Unit (FCA). If the new metering unit does not fix the issue, the high-pressure pump itself has failed internally and must be replaced.
Clear Codes
Use a diagnostic scan tool (EST) to clear the DM1/DM2 logged fault codes and test run the machine under load to verify the rail pressure meets the commanded target.
