Case IH 3305 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Engine Controller (EDC): Common Rail Pressure Below Target Pressure
Issue description
The engine's fuel system is failing to build or maintain the commanded fuel pressure in the high-pressure common rail, which will result in poor performance, derating, or engine shutdown.
Applies to these machines
6 machines- skid steer
- Skid Steer Loaders (SSL)
- Compact Track Loaders (CTL)
- Farmall
- Magnum
- Steiger
Check the cause
Check for clogged primary or secondary fuel filters
Check the low-pressure fuel tubes, specifically looking for a clogged return line from the pump to the fuel tank
Inspect the high-pressure system (rail, lines, and injectors) for any internal or external leakage
Evaluate the low-pressure pump hydraulic circuit to ensure the high-pressure pump is receiving adequate fuel supply
Check the fuel metering unit (FCA/M-Prop) circuit for electrical faults or sticking
Test the high-pressure fuel pump for low mechanical efficiency
Repair steps
Relieve System Pressure
Ensure the engine is off and high-pressure fuel has dissipated before opening the fuel system.
Clear Restrictions
Replace clogged fuel filters and clear any blockages in the fuel return lines to the tank.
Seal Leaks
Tighten or replace any leaking high-pressure fuel lines or leaking fuel injectors.
Replace Metering Unit
If the low-pressure supply is good but the rail pressure is still low, replace the fuel metering unit on the high-pressure pump.
Replace High-Pressure Pump
If the metering unit does not fix the issue, the high-pressure fuel pump has low efficiency and must be replaced.
ECU Reset (If Applicable)
If the Engine Controller (EDC) is replaced or flashed during the repair process, you must use the appropriate Case IH Electronic Service Tool procedure to restore the engine's self-learning parameters.
