Case IH 3306 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Cylinder 4 Specific Errors - Signal Not Plausible

An electrical fault in the fuel injection system where the engine controller is receiving an irregular, incorrect, or implausible signal from the fuel injector circuit on cylinder number 4, typically resulting in the engine restricting speed and fuel (limp mode).

   Inspect the wiring harness running from the Engine ECU to the Cylinder 4 fuel injector for chafed wires, melted insulation, or physical damage.

   Disconnect the harness at the injector and the ECU to check for corroded, pushed-back, or bent pins.

   Use a multimeter to test the Cylinder 4 injector wiring for continuity, checking for an open circuit, a short to ground, or a short to a high voltage source.

   Ohm test the Cylinder 4 fuel injector solenoid to see if the internal coil has failed or is out of specification.

   Disconnect Power

   Always disconnect the battery before servicing engine electrical components or the fuel system.

   Harness Repair

   If the diagnostic tests reveal a short or break in the wiring harness, repair the damaged section of the wire or replace the injector harness entirely.

   Injector Replacement

   If the wiring and ECU pins test perfectly but the injector solenoid fails its resistance test, the Cylinder 4 fuel injector must be replaced. Clean the area around the injector, remove the high-pressure fuel lines and the injector hold-down clamp, extract the faulty injector and discard the old sealing washers/O-rings. Install the new injector with new seals, torque the hold-down bolts to OEM specifications, and reconnect the fuel lines.

   Reassembly & Testing

   Reconnect the electrical harness and the battery. Use a diagnostic scan tool to clear the 3306 fault code. Start the engine, check for fuel leaks, and verify that the engine runs smoothly without returning to limp mode.
