Case IH 3308 – Engine ECU: Cylinder 5 Specific Errors - Signal Low

Indicates a low voltage signal, short circuit to ground, or an open circuit in the drive circuit for the fuel injector on Cylinder 5. The engine controller is detecting that the electrical signal returning from the Cylinder 5 injector solenoid is below the minimum expected threshold.

   Use an approved diagnostic tool (like the CNH EST) to clear the error code and run the machine under normal conditions to see if the code returns

   Inspect the wiring harness between the Engine ECU and the Cylinder 5 fuel injector for chafing, melted wires, or a short circuit (low side to battery/ground)

   Disconnect the Cylinder 5 injector connector and check for corrosion, bent pins, or moisture intrusion

   Test the resistance of the Cylinder 5 fuel injector solenoid with a multimeter to see if it falls outside of OEM specifications, confirming an internal short

   Look for accompanying codes like 3309 or 3310, which indicate rail pressure limit issues or implausible signals on the same cylinder

   Preparation

   Ensure the engine is turned off and completely cooled down to avoid burn hazards. Disconnect the battery.

   Access the Injector

   Locate Cylinder 5 on the engine block. Clean the surrounding area to prevent dirt from entering the fuel system.

   Disconnect Lines

   Remove the fuel delivery connector and the fuel reflux (return) screw from the Cylinder 5 injector.

   Remove the Injector

   Disconnect the electrical harness. Unbolt the injector fixing bracket and carefully pull the injector from the cylinder head.

   Clean the Bore

   Clean the injector bore in the cylinder head using appropriate brushes, ensuring no carbon deposits or debris fall into the cylinder.

   Install New Injector

   Insert the new injector (equipped with new O-rings/seals).

   Reinstall the fixing bracket nuts. Note: FPT manuals specify tightening the fixing bracket nuts with a torque wrench to 15 ÷ 20 Nm (depending on the exact engine model).

   Reassemble

   Reconnect the fuel delivery lines, return lines, and the electrical connector.

   Bleed the System

   Bleed air from the fuel injection system if required by your specific engine's fuel feed pump setup.
