Case IH 3323 – Engine Control Unit (ECU / EDC): Timeout of CAN Message RxAMCONIv (Ambient Conditions)

This indicates a communication error on the Controller Area Network (CAN) bus. Specifically, the Engine Control Unit is not receiving the expected data packet containing the ambient environmental conditions (such as outside air temperature) within the programmed time limit.

   Check for multiple CAN codes (e.g., 3324, 3325, 3326) using a diagnostic scanner to rule out a broader CAN bus network failure such as a damaged main harness or failed terminating resistor

   Inspect the ambient air temperature sensor and its electrical connector for moisture, corrosion, or backed-out pins

   Check the wiring harness for chafing, breaks, or damage between the sensor/cab controller and the Engine ECU

   Power down and disconnect battery

   Power down the machine, remove the key, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during repair.

   Locate sensor

   Locate the ambient air temperature sensor on the machine. It is usually mounted in a protected area within the outside airstream.

   Inspect and clean connector

   Disconnect the wiring harness from the sensor. Inspect the plug for dirt or moisture and clean it with electrical contact cleaner if necessary.

   Repair wiring

   If the wiring harness shows signs of physical damage or chafing, repair the broken wires and seal them with heat shrink.

   Remove faulty sensor

   If the wiring and connector are in good condition, the sensor itself has likely failed. Unclip or unbolt the faulty ambient temperature sensor from its mounting bracket.

   Install new sensor

   Install the new OEM replacement sensor and plug the connector back in, ensuring it clicks securely into place.

   Reconnect battery

   Reconnect the battery and turn the ignition on.

   Clear codes and verify

   Use a diagnostic tool to clear the inactive fault codes. Start the engine and verify that the climate control/ambient temperature readings are accurate and that code 3323 does not return.
