Case IH 3324 – Engine Controller (ENG) / Engine ECU: Timeout of CAN Message EBC1 (Electronic Brake Switch)

The control module is not receiving the expected Controller Area Network (CAN) communication signal from the Electronic Brake Controller or Electronic Brake Switch within the required time limit.

   Check for electrical interference on the CAN-bus network

   Inspect the CAN wires between the Electronic Brake Controller/Switch and the Engine ECU to see if the wire or connector is broken

3. 3

   Test the CAN wiring and connectors to ensure they are not defective and making unwanted contact with vehicle ground or battery voltage

   Check the Electronic Brake Controller (EBC) and the cables leading directly to it

   Access the Wiring

   Locate the Electronic Brake Switch/Controller and trace the CAN wiring harness routing to the Engine ECU.

   Inspect Connectors

   Disconnect the connectors at both the EBC and the Engine ECU. Inspect the pins for corrosion, pushed-out pins, or moisture. Clean or repair as necessary.

   Test the Harness

   Using a multimeter, test the CAN High and CAN Low wires for continuity from end to end. Next, test the wires for a short to ground and a short to power (battery voltage).

   Repair Wiring

   If a break or short is found in the harness, repair the damaged section of the wire or replace the affected harness segment.

   Replace the Switch/Controller

   If the wiring harness and connectors test perfectly normal, the fault likely lies within the Electronic Brake Switch or the EBC itself. Replace the faulty switch.

   Clear and Verify

   Reconnect all components, clear the fault codes from the Engine ECU, and operate the tractor to verify that code 3324 does not return.
