Case IH 3345 – Engine Control Unit (Engine ECU / EDC - Electronic Diesel Control): Total Throttle Failure (Only applies to Dual Throttle Vehicles)
Issue description
Complete loss of valid throttle input signals on tractors equipped with a dual throttle system. The system logs this code when the control module receives a failure value from the CAN data bus indicating that the throttle position sensors are no longer providing readable or correlating data.
Applies to these machines
4 machines- Case IH Magnum Series: 235 - 340 (Series 4)
- Case IH Steiger Series
- Case IH Puma, Maxxum, and Vestrum CVXDrive Series
- Case IH Farmall U Pro
Check the cause
Inspect CAN bus and wiring harness connecting the foot throttle pedal and hand throttle to the Engine ECU for chafed wires, open circuits, or shorts.
Inspect electrical connectors at the Throttle Position Sensors (TPS) for moisture, corrosion, or backed-out pins.
Perform a sensor sweep test using a multimeter or Case IH EST to monitor voltage/percentage for dead spots, erratic spikes, or lack of signal.
Verify module communication between the armrest controller and the Engine ECU over the CAN network.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the ignition and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.
Access the Component
Remove the lower dash panels to access the foot throttle pedal assembly, or open the Multicontroller armrest console to access the hand throttle sensor.
Disconnect
Unplug the wiring harness connector from the faulty Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) or pedal assembly.
Removal
Remove the retaining bolts securing the throttle assembly or sensor to its mounting bracket and remove the faulty unit.
Installation
Mount the new TPS or throttle pedal assembly and tighten the retaining hardware to OEM torque specs.
Reconnect
Plug the electrical connector back in, ensuring the locking tab clicks into place. Reconnect the battery.
Calibration
Connect the Case IH EST diagnostic tool. Clear the inactive 3345 fault code and perform a Throttle Calibration Procedure.
