3356

Case IH 3356 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Electronic Diesel Control (EDC): Cylinder Shutoff (Cylinder Balancing Disabled) - Shutoff Active

Issue description

The engine control module has actively disabled the cylinder balancing function and shut off a specific cylinder. This is typically a protective reaction to a severe fuel system issue, such as a misfire, excessive fuel leakage, or an injector failure.

Applies to these machines

  • Case IH Magnum 235 – 340 (Series 4)

Check the cause

  1. Check for fuel inlet or return restriction

  2. Check for air ingress into the fuel supply

  3. Check the fuel delivery performance of the gear supply (lift) pump

  4. Check the pressure control of the high-pressure pump inlet regulator

  5. Check the fuel supply pressure to the high-pressure pump

  6. Check the fuel leakage rate from electronically controlled injectors

  7. Isolate the cause of excessive fuel leakage from the injectors

  8. Provide an alternate fuel supply to diagnose potential fuel inlet problems

Repair steps

  1. Diagnose fuel injection system

Diagnose the fuel injection system components (low and high-pressure pumps, rail pressure sensor, and injectors) to isolate the root cause of the cylinder shutoff.

  2. Replace faulty component

Replace the faulty component (such as a leaking or failed injector) identified through the leakage and pressure tests.
