Case IH 3361 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): ECU internal failure - EEPROM write/read error

The Electronic Control Unit (ECU) continuously monitors its capability of reading and writing values to its internal flash memory or EEPROM. If the ECU determines that calibrated parameters (such as the baud rate) cannot be read from or written to the EEPROM during this monitoring process, it triggers this fault code.

   Use the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to check if the fault is currently active or if it was an intermittent historical code.

   Check the unswitched and switched B+ fuses (e.g., 10A fuses for the control modules) to ensure the ECU is receiving proper voltage.

   Inspect the wiring harness connecting to the ECU for damage, shorts, or poor ground connections.

   Determine if the ECU software is corrupted or simply out of date.

   Update or reprogram the ECU

   Connect the diagnostic service tool (EST) and attempt to re-flash or update the ECU software. A software reset or reprogramming can sometimes resolve EEPROM communication errors.

   Reinstall ECU software

   If the standard software update fails, attempt to completely reinstall or re-flash the ECU A-095 software using the dealer service tool.

3. 3

   Replace the ECU

   If the ECU cannot be reprogrammed or if the EEPROM chip has suffered a hard physical failure, replace the Engine Control Unit. Note: The new module will arrive blank and requires machine-specific calibration using the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to restore self-learning parameters.
