3370 (F-519845-31) - ECU

Case IH 3370 (F-519845-31) - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Info: Torque Limitation due to Engine Protection (against Excessive Torque, Engine Over speed and Overheat)

Issue description

The engine control system has detected a critical condition (such as excessively high coolant, exhaust gas, or fuel temperatures, or an overspeed condition) and is actively limiting engine torque (derating) to protect the engine from catastrophic damage.

Applies to these machines

  • VESTRUM CVX
  • Magnum Series 235 - 340 (Series 4)
  • Steiger Series 350 - 600 HP
  • Axial-Flow Combines 240 Series
  • Optum 340 CVX
  • Puma 165-225 CVX
  • Skid Steer Loaders (SSL)
  • Compact Track Loaders (CTL)

Check the cause

  1. Connect the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to the machine's diagnostic port

  2. Read all active and stored fault codes in the Engine ECU to identify the root cause

  3. Look for primary fault codes related to Engine Coolant Temperature, Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT), Fuel Temperature, or Engine Overspeed

  4. Inspect the physical cooling system for radiator blockages and verify coolant levels

  5. Check the wiring harnesses and connectors for the temperature sensors

Repair steps

  1. Identify the Root Cause

Using the EST, identify the primary fault code that caused the ECU to initiate the torque limitation.

  2. Address the Primary Defect

Follow the specific troubleshooting steps for the root error. For example, if a coolant temperature sensor code is present, test the sensor's resistance and verify the wiring harness for shorts or opens. If the engine is physically overheating, clean the radiator fins, check the viscous fan clutch, and verify coolant levels.

  3. Replace Faulty Components

Replace any failed sensors, damaged wiring, or cooling system components as dictated by the root cause diagnosis.

  4. Clear Codes

Once the physical repair is complete, use the EST to clear the fault codes.

  5. Verify Repair

Run the engine up to operating temperature under load. Code 3370 will automatically clear and full torque will be restored once the ECU confirms the engine is no longer operating in a dangerous condition.
