3371 (DTC F3EF) - ECU

Case IH 3371 (DTC F3EF) - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Strong torque limitation from injection system active

Issue description

Informational fault code indicating that the engine has entered a protective derate mode to protect the high-pressure fuel pump from excessively high temperatures. This occurs if the system forces a power reduction greater than 15.00% or an engine speed limitation greater than 5.00% for more than 120 seconds.

Applies to these machines

  • MAXXUM T4E
  • 240 Series Axial-Flow Combines
  • Magnum 235-340 (Series 4)
  • Steiger 350-600 hp
  • Puma series
  • Farmall models

Check the cause

  1. Check if the tractor's battery power supply has been connected to an external power supply (e.g., a jump box or external charger).

  2. Check for actual high fuel temperatures and ensure there are no restrictions in the fuel lines, fuel filters, or water separators.

  3. Monitor the fuel temperature sensor readings via a diagnostic tool to ensure it is not falsely reporting an overheat condition.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect External Power

If an external power source is connected to the battery, remove it immediately.

  2. Cool Down Period

Allow the machine to idle or shut it down to let the high-pressure fuel pump and fuel system cool to normal operating temperatures.

  3. Clear the Code

Since this is an informational code, it may clear once temperatures return to normal. If the system is locked, it may require a reset using the dealer service tool (EST).

  4. Address Root Causes (If code returns)

Replace clogged fuel filters/water separators to ensure proper fuel flow to the high-pressure pump. If the fuel temperature sensor is reading erratically, replace the sensor. If the high-pressure fuel pump is physically overheating due to internal wear or returning too much fuel, the pump itself will need to be replaced.

Parts you might need
