3371

Case IH 3371 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / EDC (Electronic Diesel Control): Info: Torque Limitation due to Fuel Quantity Limitation because of Injection System Errors.

Issue description

This is a secondary, informational fault code indicating that the engine control module has intentionally placed the engine into a derated state (limiting torque and power). The derate occurs either to protect the engine from damage or because a primary physical failure in the fuel injection system is preventing the system from delivering the requested fuel volume.

Applies to these machines

  • Steiger T4B
  • Case IH Magnum 235 - 340 (Series 4)
  • Case IH Steiger (350 to 600 horsepower models)

Check the cause

  1. Scan for primary codes using a CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to find the root cause (e.g., rail pressure deviations, fuel metering unit faults, or injector failures).

  2. Inspect the low-pressure fuel system and check the fuel water separator for water or heavy contamination.

  3. Verify the condition of the primary and secondary fuel filters for severe restrictions.

  4. Monitor live data for the common rail pressure sensor and the fuel metering unit (M-PROP) to ensure they are operating within specified parameters.

Repair steps

  1. Diagnose the Root Cause

Identify the primary injection system fault code that triggered the 3371 derate. The repair must target this primary code.

  2. Address Basic Fuel Delivery

If no obvious electrical or sensor codes are present, drain the fuel water separator and replace both the primary and secondary fuel filters to rule out fuel starvation.

  3. Inspect Lines

Check the fuel lines from the tank to the high-pressure pump for air leaks, pinches, or blockages.

  4. Component Replacement

Repair or replace the faulty high-pressure injection component (e.g., fuel metering unit, rail pressure sensor, high-pressure pump, or faulty fuel injector) as dictated by your primary fault code diagnosis.

  5. Bleed the System

Prime and bleed the fuel system to ensure all air is removed from the lines.

  6. Clear Codes

Connect the diagnostic tool and clear all inactive fault codes.

  7. Test Run

Operate the machine under load to verify that the primary injection system operates correctly and that the 3371 torque limitation (derate) has been successfully lifted.
