Case IH 3376 – Engine Controller: Engine Controller Software Does Not Support Power Management

Issue description

This code indicates a software configuration mismatch between the tractor's main vehicle control systems and the engine. The tractor's Vehicle Control Module (VCM) or armrest/cab controller has the Engine Power Management (EPM) feature enabled, but the software payload currently flashed onto the Engine Controller does not support this feature.

Applies to these machines

  • Case IH Magnum Series (e.g., 235 – 340 Series 4)
  • Case IH Steiger Series
  • Case IH Puma Series

Check the cause

  1. Verify if the specific tractor was factory-equipped or legitimately upgraded to utilize Engine Power Management (EPM).

  2. Check recent service history to determine if the Engine Controller (ECM) or Vehicle Control Module (VCM) was recently replaced, updated, or reflashed with an incorrect software payload.

  3. Connect the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to read the current software versions on both the Engine Controller and the VCM.

Repair steps

  1. Connect EST

Connect the EST to the tractor's diagnostic port.

  2. Navigate to settings

Navigate to the vehicle configuration and instrumentation settings.

  3. Disable EPM if not equipped

If the tractor is NOT supposed to have EPM: Locate the Engine Power Management option in the configuration menu and disable it.

  4. Reflash Engine Controller if EPM equipped

If the tractor IS supposed to have EPM: You must update the Engine Controller. Navigate to the programming/flashing menu in the EST and reflash the Engine Controller (ECM) with the correct software payload that explicitly supports Power Management.

  5. Cycle key switch

Cycle the key switch to allow the modules to reboot and communicate.

  6. Clear fault code

Use the EST (or a compatible DTC eraser) to clear the inactive 3376 fault code from the Engine ECU.

  7. Verify repair

Run the tractor and verify that the code does not return and that EPM engages properly under load.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Engine Control Module (ECM) / Engine ECU

Only required if the Engine Controller is internally corrupted and refuses to accept a new software flash.
