Case IH 341 – Engine Controller (ECM / ECU): All data written during powerdown cycle was lost (checksum error)

The Engine Control Module (ECM) failed to properly save its operational data (such as fuel consumption, fault codes, or calibration data) to its internal non-volatile memory during the last key-off/power-down sequence. This is typically caused by a sudden loss of unswitched battery power before the ECM can complete its shutdown process, or an internal hardware failure within the ECM's memory.

   Check for accompanying codes, such as 'Unswitched 12 volt supply voltage disconnected without normal key off sequence', which confirms a power interruption issue

   Verify that the battery voltage is within specification and not dropping excessively during operation or shutdown

   Check the unswitched 12V supply circuit to the ECM (the ECM requires constant power for a short duration after the key is turned off to write its data)

   Inspect the battery terminals, master disconnect switch, and the ECM power/ground harness connectors for corrosion, looseness, or damage

   Inspect and Clean Connections

   Clean the battery terminals and ensure the ECM ground and power connections are tight and free of corrosion.

   Check Fuses and Relays

   Inspect the unswitched power supply fuse and the main engine power relay. Replace if blown or showing signs of high resistance/heat damage.

   Clear the Code

   Use a diagnostic tool (such as the CNH Electronic Service Tool or a Can-Bus DTC Eraser) to clear the fault code from the engine ECU.

   Perform a Proper Key-Off Sequence

   Turn the ignition key on, wait a few seconds, and turn it off. Crucial step: Wait at least 30 to 60 seconds after turning the key off before turning off the master battery disconnect switch. The ECM needs this time to complete its power-down data write cycle.

   Re-test

   Turn the key back on and check if Code 341 returns.

   ECM Repair/Replacement

   If the wiring is perfect, the power-down sequence is followed correctly, and the code immediately returns, the ECM's internal FlashROM/EEPROM is likely failing. The ECM will need to be sent out for refurbishment or replaced entirely.
