Case IH 3419 – Engine Control Unit (Engine ECU / EDC): Turbocharger - ECU Power stages: SCG error on the Turbocharger PWM output power stage
Issue description
The system has detected an "SCG" (Short Circuit to Ground) on the Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) output power stage that controls the turbocharger actuator. This means the electrical circuit responsible for sending the PWM signal to the turbocharger's wastegate or variable geometry actuator has shorted out to a ground source.
Applies to these machines
8 machines- Farmall
- skid steer
- Puma 150
- Puma 165
- Puma 210
- Magnum 235-340
- Steiger Series
- Farmall 115U
Check the cause
Stop the engine and allow it to cool completely before starting work around the turbocharger for safety
Inspect the wiring harness running from the Engine ECU to the turbocharger PWM actuator for rubbed, melted, or pinched wires causing a short to ground
Inspect the actuator solenoid connector (e.g., X515 pins) and the corresponding ECU pins for corrosion, moisture, or bent pins that could bridge the circuit to ground
Test the turbocharger PWM actuator solenoid for an internal short to ground
Repair steps
Disconnect the battery
Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes during repair.
Locate the actuator
Locate the turbocharger PWM actuator / wastegate actuator on the turbocharger assembly.
Disconnect the wiring harness
Disconnect the wiring harness from the actuator.
Repair or replace wiring harness
If the diagnostic checks revealed a short in the wiring harness, repair the damaged wire or replace the affected harness section.
Remove actuator mounting hardware
If the wiring is intact and the actuator solenoid is internally shorted, remove the mounting hardware and linkage connecting the actuator to the turbocharger.
Install new actuator
Install the new turbocharger PWM actuator and calibrate it if required by the specific engine service manual. (Note: On some specific engine models, the actuator is not serviced separately, and the entire turbocharger assembly must be replaced).
Reconnect components
Reconnect the wiring harness and battery.
Clear fault code
Use a diagnostic tool or DTC eraser to clear the 3419 fault code from the Engine ECU memory.
