Case IH 3430 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Electronic Diesel Control (EDC): EGR Inducement less severe derating level
Issue description
The engine control system has detected a malfunction in the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system and is initiating an 'inducement' (forced reduction in engine performance/torque derate) to comply with emissions legislation. This code is often triggered by a secondary issue, such as a blocked EGR valve or a failed differential pressure sensor.
Applies to these machines
8 machines- skid steer
- Farmall Series (95U, 105U, 115U, 85A, 95A, 105A, 115A)
- Puma
- Magnum
- Steiger
- Skid Steer Loaders (SSL)
- Compact Track Loaders (CTL)
- Compact Wheel Loaders (21F, 121F, 221F, 321F)
Check the cause
Check for accompanying active codes related to the EGR valve (e.g., EGR valve blocked) or the DPF differential pressure sensor (e.g., Codes 3428 or 3429), as Code 3430 is a reaction to a root problem.
Inspect the air lines leading to the differential pressure sensor to verify they are properly installed and free of cracks, kinks, or holes.
Inspect the wiring harnesses and connectors leading to the EGR valve actuator and the differential pressure sensor for corrosion, shorts, or open circuits.
Remove the EGR valve and inspect the valve and intake manifold passages for excessive soot or hard carbon buildup that could prevent the valve from opening or closing fully.
Repair steps
Relieve Pressure & Disconnect
Turn off the machine, disconnect the battery, and allow the exhaust/EGR system to cool completely.
Clean the Passages
If carbon buildup is found during the diagnostic inspection, thoroughly clean the EGR passages and the intake manifold. A clean installation site is required for a new valve to seat and function properly.
Replace Faulty Components
If the differential pressure sensor hoses are cracked, replace the hoses. If the EGR valve is mechanically stuck or the actuator has failed electrically, unbolt the old EGR valve and install a direct OEM replacement.
Reassemble
Reconnect the EGR cooler lines, electrical harnesses, and ensure all gaskets are properly seated to prevent vacuum or exhaust leaks.
ECU Reset / Calibration
Connect a dealer-level diagnostic scan tool (like the CNH EST tool). You must perform the 'Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve - Configure - Reset ECU data' procedure to calibrate the new valve to the engine module.
Clear Codes
Clear the fault codes and test run the machine under load to ensure the derate is lifted and the code does not return.
