Case IH 3430 – ENGINE ECU (EDC): EGR Inducement Less Severe Derating Level
Issue description
An emissions-mandated engine derate (power reduction) triggered by the engine control module due to an underlying EGR system fault. This Level 1 derate results in a warning lamp and a 25% torque reduction.

Check the cause
Check for other active fault codes using a diagnostic tool to identify specific EGR-related errors (e.g., EGR valve blocked, position errors, temperature sensor faults, or plausibility errors)
Inspect the EGR valve for heavy carbon buildup, sticking, or mechanical failure (a primary trigger is an 'EGR valve blocked' condition)
Inspect the engine wiring harness and connectors leading to the EGR valve actuator and EGR sensors for shorts to ground, shorts to battery, or open circuits
Repair steps
Address the Root Cause
Based on the accompanying fault codes, repair the underlying EGR issue. This usually involves removing and cleaning the EGR valve, replacing a failed EGR valve actuator, or repairing a damaged wiring harness.
Re-initialize the ECU / Reset the Timer
Once the physical repair is complete, use the CNH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to clear the inactive codes and reset the EGR inducement timer.
Perform a Test Drive/Cycle
Run the engine through a standard operating cycle to ensure the root EGR fault does not return and that full engine torque is restored.
