Case IH 3432 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) inducement warning

Issue description

This code is an initial driver warning that an underlying EGR failure (such as an 'EGR valve blocked') has been detected. If the root cause is not fixed, the system will escalate to torque reduction and eventually a 'creep mode' with a severely reduced maximum vehicle speed.

Applies to these machines

  • Farmall
  • SR130
  • SR160
  • SR175
  • SR200
  • L220
  • L230
  • C238
  • 105C
  • 105U
  • 115C
  • 115U
  • 75C
  • 85A

Check the cause

  1. Use a diagnostic tool to check for other active fault codes relating to the EGR valve

  2. Address root codes first: If other EGR valve fault codes are present (e.g., indicating an open circuit, short circuit, or blocked valve), troubleshoot those specific active EGR fault codes first

  3. If no other fault codes are present, clear the fault code and return the machine to service to see if the code returns

Repair steps

  1. Identify the Root Cause

Perform the diagnostic checks above to find the specific EGR component failure (most commonly a blocked or electrically failed EGR valve).

  2. Inspect Wiring

Check the engine cylinder harness and ECU connectors for open circuits, shorts, corrosion, or damage. Repair or replace the harness as required.

  3. Replace or Clean the EGR Valve

If the valve is mechanically blocked or has failed internally, remove and replace the EGR valve assembly.

  4. Reset ECU Data

If the EGR valve is replaced, you must use the diagnostic service tool to configure and 'Reset ECU data (EGR valve)' so the system recognizes the new component.

  5. Clear Codes

Clear the DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) from the engine ECU to remove the inducement warning and restore full engine power.
