3434

Case IH 3434 – ENGINE ECU: Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF): Inducement most severe derating level

Issue description

This code indicates that the DPF system has reached a critical level of soot or ash accumulation, or a severe emissions system failure has occurred. To protect the engine and force compliance with emissions standards, the engine control system applies its most severe power derate (limiting engine RPM and torque).

Applies to these machines

  • Farmall
  • SR130
  • SR160
  • SR175
  • SR220
  • SR250
  • SV250
  • SV300
  • TV370
  • Farmall 85C
  • Farmall 95C
  • Farmall 105U
  • 580N
  • 580 Super N
  • 590 Super N
  • W80C

Check the cause

  1. Check for accompanying codes such as 3435 (DPF Inducement warning) or sensor-specific codes (e.g., 3517/3518 Ambient Air Temp) that might be the root cause of the DPF failing to regenerate.

  2. Inspect the differential pressure sensor and its sample lines (exhaust inlet and exhaust outlet ports) for physical blockages, melting, or damage.

  3. Test exhaust temperature sensors upstream and downstream of the DOC to verify these 5-volt BIAS voltage, 2-wire circuits are reading correctly.

  4. Connect the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to see if the soot load is still within a threshold where a forced/parked regeneration can be initiated.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Ensure the machine is turned off and the exhaust system is completely cool.

  2. Sensor Removal

Carefully disconnect the wiring harnesses for the DOC/DPF exhaust temperature sensors and the differential pressure sensor lines. Remove the sensors from the DPF housing.

  3. DPF Removal

Unbolt the DPF assembly/muffler from the exhaust system and mounting brackets.

  4. Installation

Install the new or professionally cleaned DPF assembly using new gaskets/seals.

  5. Reassembly

Reinstall the temperature and pressure sensors (replace them if the threads are galled or they test out of spec). Reconnect all lines and harnesses.

  6. ECU Reset

You must use the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) to reset the DPF soot load/ash accumulation timers. You must also follow the service tool procedure to restore self-learning parameters in the Engine Controller (EDC).

  7. Validation

Run the machine and perform a test cycle to ensure the derate is lifted and there are no exhaust leaks.
