Case IH 3448 (F-519873-31) - ECU – ECU: Torque limitation due to turbocharger protection after start
Issue description
The engine control system actively limited engine performance (torque) immediately after startup to protect the turbocharger from damage. This typically occurs during extreme working conditions (such as cold starts where oil pressure hasn't fully reached the turbocharger bearings) and lasts for a duration longer than 50.0 milliseconds.
Applies to these machines
4 machines- VESTRUM CVX
- Puma Series Tractors
- 240 Series Axial-Flow Combines
- Farmall 115U Efficient Power Tractors
Check the cause
Connect your diagnostic tool and scan the ECU for any other active or stored fault codes.
Verify that the operator is allowing the engine to idle briefly after startup before applying heavy loads, which allows oil to circulate to the turbocharger.
Check engine oil levels and verify that the correct oil viscosity is being used for the ambient climate, as thick, cold oil can delay turbocharger lubrication and trigger this protection mode.
Repair steps
Acknowledge code
Acknowledge the code as a confirmation of a temporary power reduction commanded by the ECU.
Clear fault code
If no other turbocharger, oil pressure, or engine speed faults are present, clear the fault code from the ECU memory.
Educate operator
Educate the equipment operator on proper engine warm-up procedures to prevent the ECU from having to intervene and limit torque to protect the turbocharger.
