Case IH 3454 – Engine Control Unit (ECU / ENG): Fuel filter switch is failed

This code indicates a fault in the circuit for the plugged fuel filter switch. The system detects an issue with either the engine control unit (ECU), the wiring harness, or the fuel filter clog switch itself. It can also be triggered if the fuel filter is severely blocked.

   Locate the fuel filter switch, which is mounted on the fuel filter housing head. Visually inspect the switch, the connector pins, and the wiring harness for any obvious physical damage, corrosion, or loose connections.

   Check if the fuel filter is simply blocked/clogged, which can trigger switch faults.

   Disconnect the harness and check continuity between the ECU connector pins and the fuel filter switch connector pins to rule out a broken wire or short in the harness.

   Verify if the electrical signal is successfully passing through the harness connector.

   Address Filter Blockages

   If the diagnostic checks reveal a blocked fuel filter, replace the fuel filter element first and clear the code.

   Harness Repair

   If continuity testing fails, repair or replace the damaged section of the engine electrical harness.

   Switch Replacement

   If the wiring is good (has proper continuity) and the filter is clean, the switch itself has failed internally. Disconnect the electrical connector from the switch. Unthread/remove the failed switch from the fuel filter housing head. Install the new plugged fuel filter switch (ensure the sealing washer/gasket is in place). Reconnect the electrical harness and clear the fault code via the diagnostic terminal.
