Case IH 3460 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Oil temperature too low

The control module has detected that the oil temperature value has dropped below -35.04 °C. Possible failure modes include extreme ambient working temperatures, a faulty B-014 oil temperature sensor, a faulty ECU (software issue), or a short to ground in the temperature signal circuit.

   Use the Electronic Service Tool (EST) to verify if the fault is currently present and active, or if it is an inactive/intermittent fault.

   Inspect the wiring harness and corresponding connectors for damage, bent pins, pushed-back pins, corroded terminals, or broken wires.

   Check for a short to ground in the temperature signal circuit: Turn the ignition switch OFF, disconnect connectors X-829 and X-917 from the ECU, and use a multimeter to perform a continuity test from the harness side of X-917 pin 13 to chassis ground, to X-917 pin 6, and to all other pins. There should be NO continuity.

   Repair Wiring

   If the continuity test in the diagnostic phase revealed a short to ground, locate and repair the shorted wire in the B-014 temperature signal circuit.

   Replace the Sensor

   If no short circuit is found and the wiring is intact, the B-014 oil temperature sensor is likely defective. Remove and replace the B-014 sensor.

   Verify Repair

   Connect the Electronic Service Tool (EST) and verify the status of fault code 3460 (DTC 2CD3). If the fault is cleared, return the machine to service.

   Update ECU Software

   If replacing the sensor does not resolve the fault, check if the ECU has the appropriate software version. Flash/update the ECU software if necessary.
