Case IH 3461 (DTC E69D) - ECU – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Engine Control Module (ECM): ECU internal failure - Timeout in the shut off path test error

The Engine Control Unit (ECU) continuously performs internal diagnostic self-tests. One of these tests monitors the 'shut-off paths,' which are internal safety circuits designed to deactivate all power stages relevant to fuel injection if a critical error is detected. If the ECU's internal processor experiences a timeout while attempting to verify this shut-off path, it logs this Level 2 monitoring fault. It essentially means the ECU's internal hardware or software has failed a critical safety self-check.

   Check Battery Voltage: Extremely high or low battery voltage can disable the ECU's powerstage diagnosis and trigger false internal faults. Verify the battery is fully charged and the alternator is outputting the correct voltage.

   Inspect Wiring and Connectors: Check the primary wiring harness connectors at the Engine ECU. Look for bent, spread, corroded, or loose terminals.

   Verify Power and Ground: Test the main power and ground circuits supplying the ECU under load to ensure there are no voltage drops or intermittent open circuits.

   Cycle Power: Clear the fault code using a diagnostic tool and cycle the ignition key. If the code returns immediately upon key-on or engine cranking, the ECU has suffered a hard internal failure.
