3493

Case IH 3493 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Missing adjustment value programming for injector in cylinder 2

Issue description

This code indicates that the engine control module has lost or is missing the specific calibration code (often called an IQA, trim, or QR code) for the fuel injector installed in cylinder 2. Because every fuel injector has slight manufacturing variances, a unique adjustment value is printed on the injector body. The engine computer needs this value to properly balance fuel delivery and ensure smooth engine operation.

Applies to these machines

  • Steiger T4B
  • 240 Series Axial-Flow Combines (7240, 8240, 9240)
  • Steiger Tractors (385, 435, 450)
  • Magnum Tractors
  • NEF 4
  • NEF 6
  • Cursor 9
  • Cursor 11
  • Cursor 13
  • Cursor 16

Check the cause

  1. Verify Recent Service History: Check if the fuel injector in cylinder 2 was recently replaced. If a new injector was installed but not programmed into the ECU, this code will trigger.

  2. Check ECU Status: Determine if the Engine ECU was recently flashed, replaced, or suffered a voltage drop that may have caused it to lose its programmed memory.

  3. Locate the Calibration Code: Physically inspect the fuel injector installed in cylinder 2. Locate the alphanumeric calibration/trim code (or QR code) printed on the top or side of the injector body.

Repair steps

  1. Connect diagnostic tool

Connect the Case IH Electronic Service Tool (EST) (with an approved DPA5 diagnostic adapter) to the machine's CAN BUS diagnostic port.

  2. Turn ignition ON

Turn the machine's ignition key to the ON position (engine off).

  3. Establish communication

Launch the CNH EST software and establish communication with the Engine Control Unit (ECU).

  4. Navigate to coding section

Navigate to the ECU Programming / Injector Coding section (often found under the E.A.S.y engine diagnostic tool interface within EST).

  5. Input calibration code

Select Cylinder 2 and input the exact calibration/trim code printed on the physical injector body.

  6. Save configuration

Save the configuration to the ECU.

  7. Clear fault codes

Clear the active fault codes (3493 / F376).

  8. Verify repair

Cycle the ignition key off, wait 30 seconds, and turn it back on to verify the fault code does not return.
