Case IH 3494 – Engine ECU: Missing adjustment value programming for injector in cylinder 6
Issue description
Modern common rail diesel engines use Injector Quantity Adjustment (IMA) codes—a unique alphanumeric calibration code printed on each fuel injector. This code tells the engine computer the exact flow characteristics of that specific injector so it can precisely control the fuel pulse. This fault code triggers when the engine computer realizes it does not have a valid IMA calibration code saved in its memory for the injector installed in cylinder number 6.

Check the cause
Verify recent service history to see if the fuel injector in cylinder 6 was recently replaced without programming the new IMA code.
Verify ECU history to check if the Engine ECU was recently replaced, flashed, or updated, which can wipe stored injector adjustment values.
Locate cylinder 6 and visually read the IMA (Injector Quantity Adjustment) code printed on the top or side of the injector. Write this code down exactly as it appears.
Repair steps
Connect diagnostic scan tool
Connect a compatible diagnostic scan tool (such as the Case IH Electronic Service Tool / EST) to the machine's diagnostic port.
Turn ignition ON
Turn the ignition key to the ON position (engine off).
Navigate to IQA programming
Navigate to the Engine ECU module and select the programming/calibration menu for 'Injector Quantity Adjustment' (IQA) or 'IMA programming'.
Input IMA code
Select Cylinder 6 and input the alphanumeric code you physically read off the injector. Note: If the scan tool rejects the code, some software versions require you to add zeros to the end of the code until the character field is completely full before hitting 'program'. If the scan tool still will not accept the code, the Engine ECU may require a software update first.
Save and cycle key
Save the programming, cycle the machine's key off for 30 seconds, and turn it back on.
Clear codes and verify
Clear the fault codes and start the engine to verify DTC F476 (3494) does not return.
Replace injector if necessary
If the code on the injector is illegible, or if the injector has failed mechanically, the injector must be replaced with a new unit, and the new unit's code must be programmed using the steps above.
