Case IH 35 – Transmission Control Module (TCM): SOL_DUMP_SHORT_12V_ERR 8 Fixed Crit.Dis

The Transmission Dump Solenoid circuit is shorted to a 12-volt power source (battery voltage). The transmission controller locks out the transmission to prevent sudden, unintended movement or internal gearbox damage.

   Visually inspect the transmission wiring harness between the TCM and the dump solenoid for chafed insulation, melted wires, or pinch points where the solenoid wire might be touching a 12V power supply wire.

   Disconnect the electrical connector at the dump solenoid, turn the key to the ON position (engine off), and use a multimeter to probe the harness-side connector. If 12V is present, the short is in the wiring harness or the TCM.

   Measure the internal resistance of the dump solenoid pins. Compare the reading to OEM specifications; a reading of 0 indicates a dead internal short.

   Check the solenoid and ECM connectors for water ingress, corrosion, or bent pins that could bridge the 12V supply to the dump solenoid pin.

   Safety First

   Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.

   Locate the Valve

   Locate the transmission control valve assembly on the side of the transmission gearbox. Clean the surrounding area thoroughly to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.

   Remove the Solenoid

   Disconnect the electrical connector from the dump solenoid. Remove the retaining bolts securing the solenoid to the valve block.

   Prepare the New Part

   Coat the new dump solenoid valve components and O-rings with clean transmission fluid (Case IH Akcela Nexplore™ Fluid is recommended by the OEM) prior to assembly.

   Installation

   Insert the new dump solenoid into the valve block. Install and tighten the retaining bolts to the specified torque (manuals specify 27 Nm or 20 ft. lbs for the valve assembly bolts).

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the electrical connector and the battery.

   Calibration

   Clear the fault codes using the tractor's Calibration and Diagnostics Unit (CDU) or display monitor. You may need to perform a clutch/transmission calibration procedure so the TCM can relearn the engagement characteristics of the new solenoid.
